5 bodies Discovered Following Taiwan bridge collapse, 1 still missing

Searchers at Taiwan have recovered five bodies and are looking for yet another person missing from three fishing ships which were struck when a bridge fell into the water beneath, police said Wednesday.

The National Fire Agency said two of those deceased were Indonesian and yet another was Filipino. The identities of the other two dead haven’t yet been ascertained.

Taiwan’s army deployed a floating stage to assist employees to remove debris and attempt to pull two of their ships from beneath collapsed segments of this bridge. The next ship was recovered the prior moment. Each of the victims is thought to be fishing vessel employees.

A typhoon swept from the island but the weather was shining once the bridge fell, and it was not obvious when the storm was a variable.

Ten individuals were taken to hospitals with injuries, for instance, Taiwanese driver of an oil tanker truck which dropped off the bridge. Another two are Filipino and Indonesian fishermen, together with a single, an undercover, in serious illness, Taiwan’s official Central News Agency said, citing an employment agency that recruited the employees.

The 18-meter-high (almost 60 ft ) high bridge at Nanfangao, a Pacific shore fishing port, opened in 1998 and substituted a decrease span that prevented big fishing boats from passing beneath.

The company that made the bridge, MAA Consultants, says it is the sole single-span arch bridge in Taiwan supported by wires and the 2nd only arch-cable steel bridge in the world.
