BRITT, Iowa (AP) - The city of Britt in northern Iowa has hired a local police officer as its new police chief. The city hired Bob Sankey during the City Council's meeting last night. Sankey has been a full-time police officer for the city for five years.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - West Des Moines Water Works has promoted its engineering project manager to general manager. Diana Wilson is the first woman to lead the agency that delivers water to 60,000 water customers. She has been engineering project manager since 2010.

NORA SPRINGS, Iowa (AP) - A severe storm that brought high winds earlier this week is being blamed for a barn collapse at Nora Springs that killed five cows. Robert and Carol Mack's remaining 50 or so cattle are being temporarily housed in a neighbor's cattle shed. Fierce winds picked up the brick barn and dropped it about 15 feet off its foundation.

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - A Davenport couple has been accused of having too many white bass. A search of the home of Jeremy Nguyen and Chi Hue Tran turned up nearly 130 white bass in the process of being filleted, more than 215 whole white bass and nearly 630 frozen white bass filets. The daily limit for white bass in the Mississippi River is 25. The possession limit is 50.
