Amit Panghal (52kg) and Manish Kaushik (63kg) have made the Indian boxing squad for the next season’s Olympic Qualifiers for their medal-winning series in the continuing world championships. Panghal and Kaushik have entered the semifinals, which makes it the first time when India has over one fighter left in the fray for the medal rounds of this marquee event. The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) had made it bright crystal boxers who win awards in the world championships would be automatic selections for the Olympic qualifiers scheduled in February at China.
“Yes, Amit and Manish will probably be moving into the qualifiers. There won’t be any trials in their weight classes today,” Indian Boxing’s High-Performance Director Santiago Nieva told PTI. The remainder of the squad is going to be chosen on the grounds of camp operation, points gathered at global events and in certain instances, trials.
While Panghal will confront Kazakhstan’s Saken Bibossinov at the last-four point, Kaushik will probably be up against top-seeded Cuban Andy Gomez Cruz in his semifinal battle. The 23-year-old Panghal along with also the 25-year-old Kaushik will be gunning to their maiden Olympic spots following year.
While Panghal has golden awards from the 2018 Asian Games and this year’s Asian Championships aside in the now guaranteed world trophy, Kaushik won a silver medal from the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
