Six people were killed in two separate avalanches from the Alps on Sunday, Austrian authorities stated.
Police said it occurred from the Dachstein region, whilst AFP reported that it had been at an altitude of 2,800 meters.
Many people witnessed the avalanche and instantly educated emergency services, however, the walkers, considered to be in the Czech Republic, were already dead by the time rescuers got into them. Their bodies have been taken to the village of Hallstatt.
There were high winds and heavy snowfall in the region within the last couple of days, causing the avalanche.
In southwestern Austria, a police officer that had been undergoing Alpine instruction was murdered when he was struck with another avalanche. He had been struck by a huge piece of snow and died at the scene from his injuries, say police told APA.
