An infant in China’s epidemic-hit Wuhan town was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus only 30 hours after being born, Chinese state media reported Wednesday.
The baby is the youngest individual listed as being infected with the virus, which has killed almost 500 people because emerging late last year.
CCTV quoted experts as saying it might be a case of”vertical transmission”, talking about diseases passed from mother to child during pregnancy, childbirth or promptly afterward.
The mom had tested positive for the virus until she gave birth.
The disease is thought to have emerged in December at a Wuhan marketplace that offered wild animals, and spread quickly as people traveled to the Lunar New Year holiday in January.
China’s national health commission said on Tuesday that the earliest individual diagnosed with this virus would be a 90-year-old, which 80 percent of reported deaths have been of individuals 60 decades old and older.
