Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde says that he doesn’t understand when Lionel Messi will return to action following another injury blow off, as his side travel to Getafe on Saturday at La Liga trying to find a first away win in eight games in all competitions.
“I don’t know how long he’ll be out for, we hope that he can go back to the group shortly,” Valverde told a news conference. “It is not serious, it is a little strain but we are going to see how he enhances next week”
Messi was ruled from the excursion in Getafe and is fighting to be fit in time for Barca’s Champions League game at home to Inter Milan following Wednesday and a challenging league game at home to Sevilla the subsequent Sunday. “When he returns shortly it is a boost for us if not then we’ll be missing a participant who’s crucial,” Valverde added.
“But we’ve got the tools to handle without him, it is a drawback, but we will need to continue.”
Valverde said he wasn’t worried about the group’s record away from home, but challenged his players to pick up all 3 things at Getafe. “I don’t think we are anxious but since everybody keeps talking about this, it appears like we will need to win away whenever possible to eliminate this atmosphere,” he explained.
“It is correct that we have not won away and we have not play nicely away and the 2 items are related. “We will need to step up things from home and we’ve got a fantastic chance to do this tomorrow. The fact we’re playing with Getafe is fantastic for us as they’ll place us under actual stress in their arena and will compel us to dig deep.”
