A request in Belgium is calling for the nation to eliminate all of the statues of the former King Leopold II who’s blamed for the deaths of countless Africans during colonial rule.
The motion is gaining traction as Europe grapples with its race problems together with the Black Lives Issue protests in the united states.
An online request to eliminate them is frequently surpassing its trademark goals and will run till Congolese independence day on June 30th.
“For the vast majority of Belgians, he is called the king who constructed the nation’, but Belgium was assembled in substantial part by cash that was stolen by the people of the Congo,” clarifies Mireille-Tsheusi Robert, president of BAMKO, an anti-racism NGO.

The request to remove the statues of King Leopold II and also to provide reparations to the Democratic Republic of Congo have come back to a sharper focus on account of this Black Lives Issue protests taking hold in the USA.
