Brazil president to Bypass Amazon summit on Physician’s orders

Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro will bypass a regional convention on fires which have devastated swaths of the Amazon because physicians want him to prepare for operation scheduled for next week, ” a spokesman said Monday.

The far-right president was criticized over his service for Amazon deforestation along with a delayed response to wildfires which have struck on the rain forest.

Bolsonaro must go on a liquid diet beginning Friday, the exact same day since the summit in Colombia, and this also makes the excursion unfeasible, said spokesman Otavio Rego Barros.

Brazil is thinking about sending a replacement or even asking the meeting be postponed,” said the spokesman.

Bolsonaro is supposed to undergo surgery Sunday to fix an incisional hernia, his fourth surgery since he had been stabbed almost a year ago during the presidential campaign.

Doctors stated Bolsonaro would require 10 days’ break after the surgery, which could be done at Sao Paulo.

Before Monday, the president pledged to defend his contentious Amazon policy in this month’s UN General Assembly even though he needed to do this”in a wheelchair” I will appear since I would like to discuss the Amazon,” Bolsonaro told me outside his official residence at Brasilia.

Due to criticism of his coverage, Bolsonaro has accused France and Germany of trying to purchase Brazil’s sovereignty following the G7 group of wealthy democracies provided $20 million in Amazon fire assistance.
