British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell denied Bond on Epstein-related sex abuse charges

Jeffrey Epstein’s former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, will stay behind bars before trial after she had been denied bail Tuesday because of threat to flee rather than face charges she recruited women for the financier to abuse two or more decades past.

Two Epstein accusers implored the judge to maintain the British socialite arrested after she pleaded not guilty to the charges during a video court hearing in Manhattan.

US District Judge Alison J Nathan stated the most restrictive kind of discharge could be inadequate to make sure Maxwell wouldn’t flee, especially now that she understands that a conviction could lead to around 35 years .

Maxwell has pleaded not guilty to charges she helped disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein from the sexual abuse and abuse of numerous women more than two years past.

She had been detained earlier this month in her New Hampshire estate and was held without bond in a prison in New York.

She looked through video conference in a New York court hearing.

Prosecutors have said the 58-year-old former girlfriend Epstein had played a”critical role” in befriending and grooming small victims for him to abuse.

Epstein killed himself in prison whilst confronting sex trafficking charges, and Maxwell’s attorneys claim she’s a scapegoat for its disgraced financier.

Maxwell”vigorously denies the charges, plans to fight with them, and is eligible for the presumption of innocence,” her lawyers said, according to AP.

Maxwell’s attorneys had asked that she’s released on bond of $5 million ($4.4 million) under states including home confinement from the nyc region and digital tracking because of coronavirus risks.

However, prosecutors have contended that she could flee the nation, according to AP.

“The defendant hasn’t merely the reason to flee, however, the capacity to do so quickly and efficiently,” prosecutors wrote, speaking to her accessibility to tens of thousands of dollars.
