Catalan authorities have detained two men on suspicion of planning an explosives attack in Barcelona.
The 2 people of Algerian nationality, aged 41 and 43, are suspected of belonging to a mobile that’s been under investigation as 2017.
The arrests are part of this operation completed in January 2019, in which 19 people were arrested in Barcelona and the neighboring town of Igualada.
Both suspects have been investigated for”membership and active cooperation with a terrorist organization”, and”preparatory functions for terrorist action”, Mossos d’Esquadra stated in an announcement.
Spanish police say the supposed terror cell had been completely disbanded.
“The analysis has enabled us to recognize the regions where the terrorist cell had intended to behave, in addition to determining the group had begun to get ability about the best way best to make explosive devices and how to acquire the warfare weapons that they had to execute their assault,” authorities said.
In May, Spain’s Civil Guard had arrested a man in Barcelona, that they thought was likely a militant assault during confinement.
