Extinction Rebellion Demonstration in central London sees dozens of arrests

Over 200 individuals have been detained in London and Amsterdam for trying to block streets at the onset of a two-week protest from the Extinction Rebellion ecological group.

From the English capital, it requested people to converge in Westminster — the chair of the UK’s legislative authority — to blockade streets. A string of”mass involvement direct activities” are also proposed in the coming days such as a shutdown of London City Airport.

Over 1,000 Extinction Rebellion activists were detained in London in April.

Authorities in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, declared on Monday that they had detained 90 protesters from the town center for blocking a significant street.

They later stated protesters were created to depart the Museumplein (Museum Square) after an emergency order in the mayor.

“Protesters who don’t willingly will be relocated to a different location by bus,” they added.

Demonstrations are also happening in other European capitals such as Paris, Berlin, Madrid, and Rome.
