‘Going to be a Challenging Season,’ Barcelona still reeling from Champions League collapse against Liverpool

Barcelona has not recovered from last year’s debacle in Liverpool.

Ever since a group comprising Lionel Messi wasted a three-goal, first-leg edge at Anfield — at a humiliating 4-0 defeat in the Champions League semifinals — Barcelona has not been the same side that arouses fear in competitions.

Barcelona had already won the Spanish league title as it had been torn apart from Liverpool on May 7, but then stunning setback it ended its national effort with a reduction from the Copa del Rey closing to Valencia.

The malaise that settled Barcelona did not go away on the summer regardless of the club leading to significant reinforcements to include depth and talent.

After being outplayed by Granada 2-0 on Saturday, Barcelona is off to the worst start to the Spanish league in 25 years later earning only seven of 15 possible points.

“It will be a challenging season,” Barcelona’s Luis Suárez said after the slide at Granada.

Barcelona, which has stated it’ll become the primary sports group in the world to exceed 1 billion euros ($1.15 billion) in earnings this year, has a record of 2 wins, a draw, and two losses up to now from the Spanish league. It had a reliable performance from goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen to shoot a 0-0 draw from Borussia Dortmund in its Champions League opener.

Barcelona just had a joint four declines in the league within the past two seasons, and among the defeats came together with the name already clinched.

The current stumbles haven’t come from the very best teams, with outcomes like a 2-2 draw at Osasuna, a newly marketed group like Granada.

Messi has played limited minutes as he gradually returns out of a leg injury. Suárez also missed two games due to injury.

France forwards Antoine Griezmann, among the league’s leading scorers when dominant Atlético Madrid, has only two objectives — both at precisely the same game — because his high profile moves to assist Messi and Suárez share the scoring out.

The defense has endured in particular. Holding midfielder Sergio Busquets, the adhesive of the group, has slipped a notch in the age 31 and has no replacement in the group.

Club president Josep Bartomeu stuck with trainer Ernesto Valverde following the loss in Liverpool despite calls for his shooting. The strain is back to the trainer.

“Those out there losing or winning would be the gamers, but I take responsibility for what’s occurred,” Valverde said.

The subsequent four games could go a very long way to determining Valverde’s future.

Barcelona hosts Villarreal on Tuesday, and four days after visits the exact physical Getafe. It subsequently hosts Inter Milan in the Champions League on Oct. 2, followed by a trip from Sevilla.

Bilbao contributes a very evenly contested Spanish team which has seen no staff win over three games.

The team, which has players in the northeast Country area and surrounding regions, has regained its identity among the toughest opponents in the contest as a result of trainer Gaizka Garitano, that came midway through last year.

“We all know our style of play along with the core team of gamers is identical,” Garitano said after Sunday’s 2-0 triumph over Alavés. Opponents have a tough time finding scoring opportunities .” Bilbao has not dropped in its San Mamés Stadium in the league since October and conquers Barcelona 1-0 in this year’s league opener.

DERBY AHEAD Real Madrid made a much-needed 1-0 triumph at Sevilla on Sunday to quieten a few critics after its awkward 3-0 loss at Paris Saint-Germain at the Champions League.

Madrid had not won at Sevilla because of 2015. The most gratification for trainer Zinedine Zidane was that the success came in the hard work he’d demanded from his or her players.

Today Zidane can confront next weekend’s derby in Atlético Madrid more peacefully — and despite confidence. First, Madrid will sponsor Osasuna on Wednesday.

Atlético got off to a fantastic start at Barcelona having a historical aim. Barcelona rallied following an equalizing punishment by Jennifer Hermoso.

Barcelona has become the most significant challenger to Atlético, which has won the past three titles.
