Schumer, D-N.Y., proposed that President Donald Trump’s court appointees, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, “will not know what hit” them should they vote to uphold abortion restrictions.
“I wish to inform you, Gorsuch, I wish to inform you, Kavanaugh, you’ve published the whirlwind and you’ll pay the purchase price,” Schumer said.
In an extremely unusual written statement issued Wednesday, Roberts stated”statements of the kind from the greatest levels of government aren’t just appropriate, they’re hazardous.”
“All members of this Court will continue to perform their job, without fear or favor, from whatever quarter,” Roberts stated.
This was the first key abortion case to reach the Supreme Court because of the retirement of Anthony Kennedy, who voted to uphold a woman’s right to select. He had been substituted by Kavanaugh, who’s usually more conservative.
Schumer told the audience that state legislatures are waging a war on girls by passing tough new abortion legislation. “I wish to inform you, Gorsuch, I wish to inform you, Kavanaugh, you’ve introduced the whirlwind, and you’ll pay the purchase price. You won’t know what hit you if you proceed with those awful decisions”
The senator’s spokesman said Schumer was speaking to the political cost Republicans” will cover placing them to the court” It was a warning, ” the spokesman stated, “the justices will unleash big grassroots movement on the dilemma of reproductive rights contrary to the conclusion.”
In his announcement, Roberts explained, “Justices understand that criticism comes with the territory,” before calling Schumer’s remarks improper and dangerous. “All members of this court will continue to perform their job, without fear or favor, from whatever quarter.”
Roberts has frequently said in public appearances he considers it’s mistaken to suppose that national judges act from their partisan political interests. In 2018, He responded to President Trump’s criticism of a federal judge as”an Obama judge”
“What we have is an outstanding group of committed judges doing their level best to perform equal rights to people appearing before them.”
