Critics said that the remarks were an indicator Pyongyang still expected to reach a deal straight with Trump on its atomic programs, despite Washington’s longstanding insistence it gives up its weapons until sanctions are lifted.
In a statement carried by Pyongyang’s official news agency KCNA, foreign ministry advisor Kim Kye Gwan said he’d fulfilled the North Korean chief” a couple of days back”, and”he stated that the association between him and President Trump is particular”.
The report came just days following Trump said of Kim: “I enjoy him. He enjoys me. We get together. I admire him.
Critics say that the North wants to exploit the connection between Kim and Trump — a former property mogul who sees himself as a master reluctantly — to fasten US concessions in nuclear talks.
It has praised Trump’s”outstanding courage” while demanding Washington come using a”new method” at the end of the season.
“The North is sending a message that unless Trump gets the telephone, the discussions will probably fall through and they are currently at a crossroads,” he explained.
Adviser Kim told KCNA that Washington policymakers were more hostile to Pyongyang and”obsessed with the Cold War mindset and sectarian bias”.
“I sincerely hope that a motive force to conquer all the hurdles… will be supplied on the grounds of this near relationship,” he added.
After trading dangers of warfare and insults in 2017, the two leaders held a high heeled summit in Singapore this past year, together with Kim signing a vague pledge to work towards”denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula”.
But negotiations stalled after an ineffective next summit in Hanoi in February, and earlier this month that the North broke off the most recent round of working-level talks in Sweden.
