Midfielder Manpreet Singh will lead the Indian men’s baseball team in their forthcoming tour of Belgium from September 26 to October 3. Hockey India on Friday announced the 20-member squad where it called guardian Harmanpreet Singh as vice-captain for its excursion where India will play three games from Belgium and two games against Spain. Lalit Kumar Upadhyay will likely be making a comeback into the side following a year’s World Cup at Odisha, while Rupinder Pal Singh, who missed out to the Olympic Test Event, making a return to this group.
Goalkeeper PR Sreejesh unites the side after being rested for the Olympic Test Event while Krishan B Pathak is another goalkeeper in the group.
“Each of the players in the group matches each other well and we’re trusting the team continues its great shape,” said chief trainer Graham Reid.
“We’re still seeking to fine-tune some facets of our sport before we depart for Belgium.
The Australian explained that the excursion of Belgium is going to be ideal preparation for the Olympic Qualifiers game against Russia in Odisha.
“Belgium is a powerful team, and when we work well against them in their very own garden, then the group will get a great deal of confidence before the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers game against Russia. This tour of Belgium will function as the ideal preparation before the all-important FIH Olympic Qualifiers. We’re anticipating a tough challenge from Spain too.”
