Ace Indian fighter Mary Kom’s title was proposed for its prestigious Padma Vibhushan Award, nation’s second-highest civilian award. The Sports Ministry can be talking about eight different female athletes to the Padma Awards.
Recently crowned World Champion P.V. Sindhu was indicated for the Padma Bhushan Award.
Sources from the Ministry have told IANS these titles still haven’t been accepted by Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju. Once approved, the claims will be transmitted into the Padma Awards Committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
“The titles have been discussed, and the last approval anticipates,” the source advised.
The titles of the pick awardees will be declared on the eve of the Republic Day next year.
In 2003, she was given with the Arjuna Award too.
Whereas Sindhu recently became the world champion after she conquered Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara 21-7, 21-7 at the closing of the championships held in Basel, Switzerland. Sindhu, who had been missed for the Padma Bhushan honor in 2017, was granted with the Padma Shri in 2015.
