Bids For New Schools Lower Than Anticipated

The Mankato School District recently purchased the land to build a new elementary school... now they know who will be doing the construction. The winning bid goes to Lund Martin Construction Incorporated of Minneapolis.District officials say Lund Martin plans to use many local contractors for the project. The bid came in at just over 12 and a half million dollars. That is nearly four million dollars below the project's budget. That could be a blessing and a curse for business office.Independent School District Director of Business Affairs Jerry Kolander says, "That's going to be hard for the public to understand, because now we have excess construction money, but that doesn't solve our budget operating problem. We still have to deal with our operations. Money can't just be transferred from one fund to the other fund."The district also came in nearly 800-thousand dollars under budget on their remodeling bid for Eagle Lake elementary school. That project went to Met Con Construction of Mankato.
