Website Offers Help To Moms

In a struggling economy, families across the country are looking to cuts costs.And one North Mankato woman has a website to help with just that...As News 12's Rosemary Shultz reports: the website with tips for trimming the family budget has been around for awhile... but recently, it's picked up quite a bit of steam.Nine years ago, Kim Danger had just welcomed a daughter...Kim Danger says, ''I just had this new baby and we'd gone from two incomes down to one.''Looking to connect with other moms and find ways to save money, Kim hopped online...Danger says, ''There were no websites out there for moms like me.''So, she created her own: Mommysavers.com.Danger says, ''When I started Mommysavers, saving money was not the in thing.''But that was then... nowadays, things are a little different...Danger says, ''It's like, thrifty is cool these days.''Danger says there's been a definite increase in traffic at the site... as families across the country look for ways to cut costs and trim their budgets.Danger says, ''We've been around a long time, but we see a lot of new faces these days.''The site offers moms a wide array of resources: from coupon clipping sections and ideas for when to shop to find the best deals to tips for decorating for less and a financial boot camp, moms can find just about anything they're looking for.And it's not just about saving money...The site also offers discussion forums so moms, can connect with other moms...Danger says the site gets anywhere between 2 and three million hits a month... and counts over 33 thousand people across the country as members... including some, right here in our area...Amy Arndt says, ''I went there for the recipes, freebies and just the money saving tips.''Amy Arndt is a mother of two who started browsing the site right when it started up...Arndt says, ''You just never know, what day to day is going to bring, you know, for you when you log in.''...More recently, she's become a moderator.Arndt says, ''It's fun. It's like a search and find.''She estimates she saves at least fifty dollars a month using the site's coupons and money saving tips...Arndt says, ''Combining the coupon with the grocery, you're saving tremendous and that's just what I was looking for.''Like Amy, Sheryl Osweiler was looking for money saving tips... She found them... and a community of supportive mothers...Sheryl Osweiler says, ''It was a sanity saver.''Sheryl has seven children and two grandchildren... and she says along the way... she's gotten lots of tips from her fellow moms...Osweiler says, ''If you have a question, my husband will say, log on there and ask your mommy friends.''Arndt says, ''It's almost like a second online family.''And Danger says that's the whole idea... an extended family working together to live life... for a little less...Danger says, ''You can live well for less and you don't have to sacrifice your quality of life to do it.''In North Mankato, Rosemary Shultz, News12.
