Fairmont Police Now Taking Tips By Text

The Fairmont Police Department is hoping to take advantage of teenager's obsession with texting to help prevent crimes. The department has set up a tip line specifically for text messaging.Police at Fairmont dot org will serve as an outlet for information gathering. It's being targeted at the city's teen population, who may be reluctant to tell or call police directly about underage drinking or other problems.Jaime Bleess says, "If we find out about it afterward, we're sure not preventing anything, and we know that info is out there beforehand. If we can just get those tips in before hand, we can be a little bit more proactive."Police made sure to stress that the new texting service is not a substitute for 911 emergency calls.
