Two Minnesota Congressmen reach across the aisle to call for an end to Minnesota's ban on building nuclear power plants.Democrat Tim Walz joined Republican Erik Paulsen at the State Capitol this morning and called on state lawmakers to repeal the Minnesota nuclear moratorium.A 1994 State Statute prevents the Public Utilities Commission from authorizing construction of new nuclear facilities.Erik Paulsen says, 'Minnesota has long been a leader in energy innovation and technology... and repealing this moratorium will once again put our state at the forefront of the energy revolution.'Minnesota's has two existing nuclear plants, near Red Wing and Monticello.Congressman Walz says ending the ban will also renew efforts to deal with waste storage from the existing plants.Tim Walz says, 'My concern is if it's not ever a solution, if producers are never talking about it again, you push the cause to the backside again and it doesn't get dealt with.Walz and Paulsen are pushing an expansion of nuclear power as part of an overall clean energy bill in Washington.
