Trains on Display in St. James

And now we'll show you a different kind of display that comes with all the bells and whistles...News 12's Jennifer Hudspeth shows us why the model railroad in St. James is chugging along with more than just historic charm.(nats) It all started 20 years ago with Bill Nordgren as the conductor...Nordgren says, "I had one train and then I bought another one and another one and another one."Now it's turned into a display of epic proportions, just on a small scale...It's a passion fueled by 25 members of the St. James model railroad club who are sharing their hobby with the community.Bill Nelson says, "Seeing the people come out and enjoy it, seeing the kids their eyes light up and the older generation looking around seeing a smile on their face, it's really great."H-O scales, N scales, and G scales all replicas of the original trains...(NATS This is great!) Models that can entertain all ages...Lance Zueg says, "You get a remote control and you get to run the trains and then there's other trains you get to just watch going all around the place."Jennifer Hudspeth says, "You can typically find six different trains running all at one time here at this display and while they may look like a lot of fun to play with a lot of hard work goes into making them run."Nelson says, "What you see on top is only 40%, all the wiring all the brains behind it is all underneath and so there's a lot of work that goes into making sure everything runs smoothly."The display is funded by donations from the community, funding the club is happy to have.Nelson says, "It's fantastic...we really love it.The community comes out and looks and they really appreciate what we're doing and we really appreciate the support they give us."And the club hopes to have more support as they continue to work on their next project... a model of the town and railroad system as it looked in the 1950's.It's a project that will take time...but for the eighty five year old it's a plan running full steam ahead.Nordgren says, "You can make a train do almost anything."In St. James, Jennifer Hudspeth News 12.
