United Way Campaign Comes Up A Little Short

The Greater Mankato Area United Way will end up a little short of their goal this year, but organizers say they are pleased with the results, especially given these economic times.Mankato United Way president Laura Bowman says the final total raised will likely come in at around $1-point-8 million dollars. That is $50,000 short of the goal set almost 10 months ago.Bowman says despite a challenging fundraising year, the 200 volunteers in the organization kept going...understanding the great need in the community...Laura Bowman says, "There's people waiting at the door for services. So, we have a higher demand and less resources. That's the unfortunate work we have, but I think people responded to that because we talked to them about it when we visited with them. And I think that's the great thing about United Way, is people know their money is going to their family, their friends, their neighbors right here."The United Way is still accepting funding to help fill the gap.The organization hopes to finalize the campaign in the next three weeks and will then finalize the budget and agency allocations for 2010.
