Obama Urges Dems To Step Up To The Plate

President Obama is urging senate democrats to stay on course.He spoke to the lawmakers at their strategy conference today-- where he took several questions on the economy.Fox's Craig Boswell has details from Washington.President Obama rallied fellow democrats at a senate strategy session-- urging them to step up the fight -- after their stinging loss in Massachusetts.Obama says: "If anybody is searching for a lesson from Massachusetts, I promise you the answer is not to do nothing."The president spoke of the need to create jobs and stabilize the economy-- and also pressed the group to pass his other top domestic issue.Obama says: "I hope we don't lose sight of why we're here. We've got to finish the job on health care."Mister Obama took questions-- senator Evan Bayh focused on deficit reduction.Bayh says: "Why should the Democratic Party be trusted? And are we willing to make some of the tough decisions to actually head this country in a better direction?"Obama says: "I'll tell you why the Democratic Party should be trusted -- because the last time this budget was balanced, it was under a Democratic President who made some very tough decisions."The president also talked about the need to work with republicans-- who he's also targeted for standing in the way of progress.republican leaders say they are going to stand their ground.Pence says: "Republicans are going to as you suggest to continue to fight on principle on behalf of the American people against all this big government spending, deficits, debts bailouts and takeovers."The President has invited bipartisan leaders of the House and Senate to the White House next Tuesday to talk about the economy and jobs. It's is the first monthly meeting the President announced in his State of the Union.
