And now reports of a possible new problem..Fox's molly henneberg has more from washington.La Hood says: "My advice is, if anybody owns one of these vehicles, stop driving it, take it to the Toyota dealer because they believe they have the fix for it"This statement by transportation secretary ray la hood causing a firestorm ...la hood of course talking about the millions of Toyota cars and trucks that were recalled because of accelerator issues.Toyota stock taking a plunge after LaHood uttered these words...hours later, LaHood said he mis-spoke.LA HOOD says: "What I said in there was obviously a misstatement. what i mean to say or i thought what i said was if you own one of this cars or if you are in doubt, take it to the dear and they are going to fix it."Meanwhile - Toyota sales in January also suffered a *sixteen percent* drop in the u.s....the car maker doing damage control after announcing a fix this week to the recall...they hope to have all the cars and trucks repaired by the end of the month.And...Toyota is paying dealerships up to *seventy-five thousand dollars* to help win back customers trust...the money will help pay for extended service hours and other dealer costs related to the recall fix.Toyota's problems may be far from over though ...u-s safety officials are widening their investigation to see if there are problems with electronic control systems...and the automaker has been hit with more than *one-hundred* complaints in the u.s. -- and Japan -- about brake problems with their popular hybrid model, the Prius.But those reported problems have *not* prompted any new recalls.in Washington, molly Henneberg, fox news.Federal safety officials have widened their investigation of Toyota's sticky gas pedals to see if the same problem could exist for other automakers.the national highway traffic safety administration has sent a letter to c-t-s, the Indiana company that made the pedals behind Toyota's recall...the agency wants to know more about pedals it made for other companies.
