Good evening and thanks for joining us, I'm Betsy Gessell. With just about all precincts reporting, it appears former House Minority Leader Marty Seifert is the front runner for the Republican nomination for governor. It is quite a bit muddier on the DFL side, however.Fox Mankato's Ryan Gustafson explains.Marty Seifert finished with just over 50 percent of the vote, with state representative Tom Emmer grabbing just a shade under 40 percent.Marty Seifert says, "It's about a two person race. We've been working very hard in the grassroots support - we have an outright majority which is what we wanted in a 6-8 person field. To have 50 something to 30 something we thought that was a really good end result for us."On the DFL side, it is still a close race between House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher and Minneapolis mayor R. T. Rybak. With 82 percent of DFL precincts reporting each is in the low 20s, with no other candidate garnering 10 percent in last night's caucus.Margaret Anderson Kelliher says, "It was really good strong first step for our campaign. Now it becomes a lot of focus for the delegates going to Duluth."Delegates from these precinct caucuses will go on to county caucuses, which will then elect delegates to the DFL state convention, which begins on April 23rd in Duluth. It's a similar process for the Republicans, who will gather for theirs on April 29th in Minneapolis. But the DFL'er that comes away with the party endorsement will have another competition before the general election.Kelliher says, "It doesn't mean that it's completely done because clearly we have a couple candidates that will be moving on to the primaries at least one in particular who is a formidable candidate, Senator Dayton, so we can expect that we're going to have an endorsement process that's going to be successful and then it looks like a primary and then a general election, so we're kind of at the first step here."The Minnesota primary election is in August, with the general following on November 2nd.Ryan Gustafson, the Fox Mankato News At Nine.
