Senate Dems Vow To Pass Jobs Bill

It's all about the economy and jobs on capitol hill.Senate democrats vow to pass a jobs bill within a week and republicans promise to rein in new spending.All of this as the labor department prepares to release new unemployment numbers.Fox news correspondent craig boswell is in the nation's capital with more.The white house says a report due Friday will show more jobs were lost during the recession than previously believed.Gibbs says: "We didn't get here overnight. We won't get out of that hole overnight. It will take a concerted effort by the President and Congress working together, both parties."President Obama summoned democratic leaders to the white house to talk about a sharpened focus on jobs and the economy.Reid says: "We're dedicating this year to a lot of things, but our number one emphasis is going to be creating jobs."Earlier senate democrats vowed to battle double digit unemployment and pass a jobs bill by next Friday and went a step further promising it would be bipartisan.Republicans are skeptical.Demint says: "I cannot recall any bipartisan bill that did not increase spending, expand government, and increase our debt."Gop leaders also doubt the president's proposed 3 year freeze on some domestic spending in the current budget proposal.McCain says: "Now the president says he's going to have a spending freeze next year and in the very next breath proposes a hundred billion dollars in new spending called a jobs bill."The senate's version of the jobs bill is expected to include incentives for infrastructure projects and tax breaks for small businesses to hire unemployed workers.The Senate Majority Leader says the first vote on the Jobs measure is planned for Monday.
