Last week we paid tribute to a guard from MVL and this week we stay on the basketball court to honor a standout guard from Mankato West.Preston Brunz has been lighting it up for the Scarlets this year.News 12 Sports Eric Gullickson tells us why he's our Scheel's All Sports boys prep athlete of the week.Preston Brunz has moved into the spotlight this year for the Mankato West boy's basketball team.Brunz played a big role in the Scarlets trip to the state championship game last year but was overshadowed at times by seniors on the court.This year is Brunz senior season and he has much of the attention on him. It's a role he's embraced with open arms.Brunz led the Scarlets to two victories in the past week.Preston put up 14 points in a 56 to 36 victory over Mankato East last Tuesday.He followed that up by contributing18 points in an 82 to 30 trouncing of Rochester JM Friday night.His coach says he knows when he needs big points or an important score he can turn to Brunz in the clutch.West is on a three game winning streak and with a sharpshooter like Preston should make another big run in the section tournament this season.Congratulations to Preston Brunz our Prep Athlete of the Week.In Mankato, Eric Gullickson, News 12 Sports.Brunz put up 15 points and 8 assists tonight in a 56 to 39 road victory for West at Albert Lea.Here's a look at the rest from around the area.
