Americans Debate Body Scanners At Airports

Balancing the need for safety and the right of privacy...That's the challenge being faced at airports across the nation as Americans debate the use of full body scanners...The debate getting new life as the government announces more machines will be hitting airports all across the country.Fox's Harris Falkner is in New York with details of where these new machines will be turning up.Some travelers at airports across the country... Seeing more of *these* machines when flying out.The Transportation Security Administration announcing *nine* more U.S. Airports will receive body-scanning technology...To beef up efforts to find hidden explosives and contraband.T-S-A officials say -- in the next few months -- the machines will be up and running...In places like:Fort Lauderdale...Columbus, Ohio...Charlotte, North Carolina...and Los Angeles.This after three machines set to go online Monday at Boston's Logan...And later this month at O'hare International in Chicago.The government bought *one-hundred-fifty (150)* scanners with stimulus dollars...Dozens are already up and running nationwide.The scanners allow T-S-A employees to see through a passenger's clothing, to search for contraband not detectable to the eye or a metal detector.Privacy? Well the images pop up in a remote viewing room... Only an officer can see them... And the passenger's face will be blurred.But critics persist. The American Civil Liberties Union has denounced the screening as a quote: "virtual strip search."Passengers have mixed feelings about using the revealing scanners.Mos says: I think it's a bit too much you shouldn't feel like you're having a medical exam when you're going to get on a plane.Mos says: I really don't care personally, I think safer is better, but for kids that's where I draw the line.(on cam tag)You *will* have the option of accepting or declining a body scan.If you decline...
