Today at "St Peter and Paul Church" an awful lot of waffles were on the griddle as the congregation and community ate breakfast to benefit a very important budget.News 12's Jennifer Hudspeth was there and tells us why this meal is helping the homeless.(NATS) Batter is cooking and breakfast is served...(NATS)On the menu...All you can eat Dad's Belgian Waffles."This isn't something one person does alone."It's a fundraiser that's bigger than just the church...it's a community effort to help those who need it the most..."We could not do this without the community's help and I'm just so grateful to everyone who has come and people that couldn't come here that gave donations, it's really been a blessing and that money will go to take care of homeless families."All proceeds from the meal are going to the Teresa House and the Welcome Inn, shelters that offer a warm place to stay to around 120 people each year, half of which are children.The Waffle money will go toward expenses at the two shelters, specifically utilities."Everybody knows utilities are going up and Theresa House is in a temporary shelter and it's an older facility so utilities are a little higher than what we were paying previously."The Theresa House moved into a temporary space right next to the Welcome Inn but officials are hoping for a more permanent space.They are currently looking at purchasing the old Bandana Brewery building."That will give us the capacity to expand the number of shelter beds that we have so it's really exciting and we hope the community will continue to support us as we do our capital campaign this spring."A campaign to help those who are less fortunate.For many opening their wallets for dad's waffles with 9 different kinds of syrup to choose from...is the perfect way to lend a hand.In Mankato, Jennifer HudspethThe Waffle breakfast today raised around 25 hundred dollars for the Theresa House and the Welcome Inn.
