Construction On Wind-Farm In Martin County Making Headway

Efforts to produce more renewable energy in Martin County are becoming a reality....as construction on *another large wind-farm is making headway.News 12's Caroline Rowland tells us what the wind turbines mean for the county.((nat sound pop))More than seven percent of our states power is generated from wind turbines.Making Minnesota one of the leaders in the nation, when it comes to wind energy power.In Martin and Jackson counties, they're helping to lead the way for the state.Neal Vonholan, Chief Manager LLC, says, "By the time this project is over we'll have 350 Megawatts that we developed, which is roughly, 17% of all of the wind in Minnesota."They've just began construction on their project, Elm Creek II.... .the third, in the Trimont area.Neal Vonholan, Chief Manager LLC, says, "These turbines are going to need to be maintained for the next 30 or 40 years."Caroline Rowland, says "In just 5 years, they've built almost 200 wind turbines. The construction has brought revenue for the county, jobs for local workers, and business for local retailers."Neal Vonholan, says, "The hotels are full, eating places at night, it helps out the local community a lot.And Martin County "Commissioner Jack Potter says the community isn't the only ones who are benefiting.The county receives thousands of dollars in tax money for every wind-turbine they have.Martin County Commissioner Jack Potter, says, "The state wins, the county wins,the township wins, the landowners win, and the environment wins, it's just a great project all the way around."Local construction workers also win.Wind energy projects have supported more than 2,700 jobs during construction, and they currently employ more than 100 people full-time in the state.And they should continue to do so.As Minnesota plans to reach a goal of having 25% of their energy be renewable, by the year 2025.Neal Vonholan, says, "The future looks unlimited right now."In Trimont.
