Poland’s Health Minister resigns amid Clinical procurement allegations

Poland’s health minister has resigned over concerns regarding the acquisition of suspicious medical gear.

Dr. Lukasz Szumowski, a cardiologist and physician that has been a major figure in the government’s struggle against the coronavirus, announced his resignation at a press conference in Warsaw.

Szumowski stated that he was stepping down to go back to practicing medicine but could stay in his function as a member of parliament.

His resignation comes one day after his deputy, Janusz Cieszynski, resigned without giving a reason.

Szumowski was a popular place in Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki’s authorities after police imposed a rigorous and ancient lockdown throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, a measure which has restricted the number of diseases and deaths in Poland.

But lately, the amount of diseases registered every day has been increasing, with over 16,000 present cases throughout the nation on Tuesday.

Lukasz Szumowski has confronted allegations that a firm owned by his brother has received millions in government grants throughout the catastrophe.

Some medical equipment purchased by the government to resist the virus has also been proven to be unsuccessful.

Szumowski has denied any wrongdoing and said on Tuesday that his resignation is something he’s planned for a while and doesn’t have anything to do with the allegations.

In the news conference, he stated that his job had assisted” to stop thousands of deaths against coronavirus in Poland”.
