Saudis ban Muslim pilgrimage in Mecca over coronavirus Anxieties

Saudi Arabia has banned citizens and residents from doing the Muslim pilgrimage from Mecca over concerns about the virus.

The statement came on the state-run Saudi Press Agency on Wednesday, quoting an unnamed Interior Ministry official announcing the ban.

It gave no time frame for how long the suspension will endure.

Last week, Saudi Arabia shut off the holiest sites in Islam to overseas pilgrims within the coronavirus. That interrupted travel for tens of thousands of Muslims already led to the realm and possibly impacting plans later this season for countless more before the fasting month of Ramadan and the yearly hajj pilgrimage.
