Cristiano Ronaldo returned from an injury scare to score as Juventus slipped beyond fighting SPAL 2-0 and took top place in Serie A on Saturday. Ronaldo notched his third successive goal at home this year after 78 minutes from Turin to include to Miralem Pjanic’s opener just before the rest. Juventus have 16 points from six matches, one ahead of Inter — that the only team with maximum points — until their match at Sampdoria after on Saturday.

The damage could have been worse for SPAL, who attained just their second win within the Turin giants last April, but also for a few nice saves from Albanian goalkeeper Etrit Berisha.

Berisha, on-loan out of Atalanta this year, got his hands to deny Paulo Dybala’s curling goal-bound effort only after half an hour and then parried a point-blank Aaron Ramey header off a Ronaldo cross in front of goal.

Pjanic had a shot cleared off the line before linking using a Sami Khedira help to fire from a space because of his second goal of the year after the winner in Brescia midweek.

Dybala set up Ronaldo for the moment together with the Portuguese celebrity’s downward header beating Berisha after he was defeated in two previous attempts.

Berisha again proved strong as he denied Ronaldo from the hosts’ final assault of the match.

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon meanwhile was unworried at the opposite end of the pitch because he left his 903rd club soccer look, exceeding the Italian album of 902 attained by AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini.
