$4.5 Million Renovation at MSU Mankato

Posted: Updated:

That's the sound of the $4.5 million renovation here at Minnesota State University Mankato.

Officials say the Centennial Student Union Ballroom project is partially funded by a $2.5 million dollar bond and the rest is from CSU savings.

Making all the changes at no cost to students, which they say is the most important thing.

Koupal says, "This is much more than a cosmetic thing. This was something that was really a point of doing our fiduciary responsibility."

Right above me is one example of leaking roofs that students have had to deal with for quite some time.

Koupal says, "We needed to do some upgrades, serious upgrades. Roofing, there have been issues with leakage in the building of this space particularly, this is the only original space of the building that hasn't been remodeled."

In the end this is what is should look like: multicolored LED lights, interactive information stations and Kasota Stone walls.

Koupal says, "The exciting part about this is the fact that were going to be able to reuse some of the materials in here the roof or the walls in the our actually wood from a Minnesota forest that no longer exists it going to be recycling and reused in the ceiling as a ceiling fixture."

That's not the only green step in this renovation.

Most light bulbs will be replaced with halogen ones and the heating and air system will be more energy efficient.

The renovation is expected to be finished around October, just in time for the 2011 homecoming events.
