Mankato Lost 91 Jobs in May

Minnesota's unemployment rate remained relatively steady in May climbing a tenth of a percent to 6.6.  That is far better than the national rate of 9.1 percent for May.

The Mankato–North Mankato area was one of only two in the state to show job losses for the month.  Officials at Greater Mankato growth say that while the area shedded 91 jobs, those came mainly from service and government, while manufacturing actually added jobs.

Jonathan Zierdt says, "So those businesses that make things, manufacturers, there's job growth, about 1.4 percent. That's a really positive sign because economic growth and vitality usually have early indications from those who make things, and so when that sector is creating jobs, that's good news for economic growth and vitality."

Statewide, sectors that added jobs during the month include the construction industry and Business service sectors.
