United Way's Day of Action

Posted: Updated:

When people volunteer their time to make our communities a better place, we all benefit.

That's what happened today with United Way's National Day of Action.

Here in Mankato, several volunteering events took place, like this group that was rebuilding a handicap accessible ramp at VINE.

Gwen Donev of the United Way says, "Part of the day too is to show the impact of volunteering and the power of the volunteer – lending a hand and making a difference. As a volunteer, you get almost as much out of it, or more even, than sometimes than what you are putting into it. Everybody lending a hand and getting together as one big effort for the Day of Action."

The event today also marked the launch of a three–year campaign to recruit 300 new readers, tutors, and mentors in the Mankato area.
