MN Jobless Numbers Hold Steady, Mankato Sees Improvement

Posted: Updated:

Minnesota's unemployment rate remained relatively steady again in June after adding 13,200 jobs.

State labor officials say the jobless rate rose 0.1 % to 6.7%, better than the national rate of 9.2%.

For the Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area, the news is even better: the region added over 1300 jobs, or a 2.6% increase.

Jonathan Zierdt with Greater Mankato Growth says, "I think the Mankato marketplace, the continued growth of the Mankato marketplace as a regional center and an economic engine for the state of Minnesota, I think it factors into this and it's great to see."

Statewide, leisure and hospitality led all sectors in job growth, adding 8,000 jobs.

Other big gains occurred in trade, transportation, utilities, education, health services and government.

The biggest job losses occurred in construction and professional and business services.
