Girls On The Run Founder Stops In Mankato

 She started as movement to help young women live healthy and gain self-respect. And today the founder of Girls On The Run brought that lesson to Mankato.

 Molly Barker believes in teaching young women about building self–confidence.

Girls take part in a 24-lesson program ending in training for a 5k together.

Women who heard her story today say it's inspiring.

 United Way Director Laura Bowman an says, "She, like all of us, has had struggles in her life and she found a way through it and to know that there's that hope for all the other girls in our community is amazing and very inspiring."

 "It is my hope that many of the women walk away from here realizing the power of girls on the run for sure in this community as well as all the other programs united way does and supports," says Girls On The Run Founder Molly Barker, "and I get a sense that everybody in the room did have some emotion moved today."

 Girls On The Run started with 13 members in 1966 and is now in over 150 cities across the country.

Right now Barker is scheduled to speak to youth and families at a picnic in Sibley park until 8 pm.
