North Mankato City Leaders are Working to save Their Post Office

Posted: Updated:

The United States Postal Service is looking at distribution facilities everywhere to see if they can continue to provide services to people in a quicker and more efficient matter but the North Mankato Post Office could be at stake for a possible closure.

Tonight the North Mankato City Council is trying to come up with a resolution of support to make sure the post office stays open."

The North Mankato post office is one of nine locations in our area being reviewed for a possible closure.

However, North Mankato City Council and community members are hoping that doesn't happen.

North Mankato City Administrator, Wendell Sande says, "We ask for you consideration in the resolution supporting the post office. Most of the communities that were on that list were very small communities. Where you have a real revenue issue as post office is concerned in those communities."

US Postal Service officials say they are in the process of sending out surveys asking what they find most important in a postal location.

City council members will be asking for the support of Representative Tim Walz and Terry Morrow tonight, sending a message with a unanimous vote on a resolution to keep their post office.

US Postal Officials say it is unlikely any postal service would close before the end of the year.
