With the school year well under way, our Golden Apple Award tradition continues.

This week, We bring you to Gloria Trahms pre–school class in Janesvillle.

For many people, teaching pre–school kids who are 3, 4, and 5 years old would be quite a challenge.

That is definitely not the case for Gloria Trahms at Trinity Lutheran School in Janesville who really enjoys educating young students.

Gloria Trahms, the Golden Apple Award recipient at Trinity Lutheran School in Janesville, says, "When I first went to college, teaching was not what I was going to do. As I got into some things and learned some things about kids, it was what I wanted to do. You are right, you have to want to do it."

Throughout Ms. Trahms' many years of teaching, she has many stories to tell of former students coming back to visit her.

It is very rewarding for her to see the lessons she teaches the students at a very young age then positively influence them years down the road.

One of Ms. Trahms' valuable lessons is that students should treat others like they are part of a family.

Gloria Trahms says, "The story that hits my heart with that is when I had a little girl come in and say, 'Daddy and mommy are not going to be living at my house anymore. One is going to be living here and I am going to be living there.' One of the little boys in my class put his hand around her and said, 'That is ok. You are part of our family. You can be here with us and we will make it good.'"

Ms. Trahms has the patience and compassion to teach and loves to see her students succeed.

Gloria Trahms says, "You see these kids come in at the beginning of the year that cannot zip their coat and do not know how to write their name and a variety of things. They do not have that skill. When they leave, they can do it. It is really nice. You just feel really good about those small triumphs is what they are. They are such big triumphs for them... and that is very rewarding. I love it."

...So that is why Gloria Trahms is our Golden Apple Award recipient.
