Tucked away in the city of New Ulm is Turner Hall. Known for the oldest bar in Minnesota but it's also a one-stop shop for a delicious meal, while being surrounded by impressive murals that date back to 1873.
Twin Cities Native Bonnie Ostlund says, "I love art, and I love especially the water colors, it's beautiful."
Bonnie Ostlund who has been to Germany can attest that the details on these murals perfectly match the real life location.
With the $7,000 grant they will be able to maintain The preservation work on these murals that began in 1873. Which will include photographic documentation, surface testing, and evaluation of each mural.
Turner Hall General Manager, Virginia Sukermoldean says, "It's a very old building 1873 so it has constant maintenance and the murals are one of the most valuable parts of the entire building so we are taking that seriously."
Ostlund says, This is just so perfect for me to see things like this and to know that grants made this all possible."
In addition to preserving these murals what they are excited about is to uncover the mystery by removing these wooden panels because it is believed that this mural continues on the rest of the wall.
Rathskeller Bartender, Jack Minch says, "I'm curious to find out what's behind those boards back there and the history that's here that people see artistic work and beautiful color turn to life."
Making it a perfect stop for those interested in learning more on what they're passionate about.
Ostlund says, "New Ulm has so much history and I love history and staying here locally in Minnesota without getting on a plane. You can do it all.
Conrad Schmitt Studios of Milwaukee will send a team to examine the murals within a couple of weeks and will also look for other hidden murals in the Rathskeller at Turner Hall.
