Often when we think of helping those in need we think of donating food, or clothing. But in tonight's Lisa's Lights segment, we highlight an MSU–Mankato student who is helping the less fortunate by giving them an education.
Sheka Mansaray is trying to open doors for kids in his home country of Sierra Leone. He realizes he is one of the lucky few able to get an education. He recently returned home after 13 years away and it changed his life.
Mansaray says, "I visited my old school, I could see what was needed, a lot of students taken back home because they didn't have funds to carry on the next year. That's when I got my call to action."
That call to action led him to create the 50 strong, 50 wise organization, a nonprofit that works to provide funds for students there to go to school. He wants to educate as many as he can doing it 50 at a time.
And he is eager to help here, too. He is involved in diversity events at MSU. Sheka Mansaray, one of Lisa's Lights.
