Our latest Golden Apple award winner spends plenty of time outside of school hours helping her students excel.
Chanda Caldwell, a math teacher at Madelia High School, is this week's recipient.
Ms. Caldwell is a hard–working, dedicated teacher who goes the extra mile to help her students.
Ms. Caldwell has twenty–five years of teaching experience now and she also has many strategies to help teach her students math at Madelia High School.
Chanda Caldwell, Madelia High School teacher and Golden Apple Winner, says, "Plenty of humor, lots of patience... I think you will find that students probably would say that I entertain them. I teach math and it is one of those things that can easily intimidate a person. I really try to make it entertaining."
Ms. Caldwell will even spend lots of time outside of class to help the students learn math.
The extra time and effort definitely pays off because she can see the tremendous improvement in skill levels from the beginning of the year towards the end.
Chanda Caldwell says, "That is really when you get the feeling like you are getting them what they need. That is the most important thing is that you want to make sure you are giving the kids the information and at least the skills they need to do whatever they are going to do."
...and we already thought that Ms. Caldwell was busy enough. So, we were even more impressed to hear that she is also the Theater Director and a Student Council Advisor for Madelia High School.
It is obvious that Ms. Caldwell has chosen the right profession.
Chanda Caldwell says, "...and stepped in to it as if I had been doing it all along and I have not thought to get out of it since. Yeah, I am where I am supposed to be."
So that is why Ms. Caldwell is our Golden Apple Award winner.
