The Mankato East-Loyola girls hockey team is having one of their best seasons ever with a 15-3-1 record coming into the week. News 12 Sports' Erick Lind says it is because the team has more experience than ever. That includes junior Savannah Quandt in her fifth year with the program and she's our KEYC Scheels All-Sports Girls Prep Athlete of the Week. Savannah Has Ice Savvy, Mankato East-Loyola's Savannah Quandt is accounting for over 25 percent of the Cougars' offense this season. The only thing is, the junior is playing defense this year. Couch Nathan Fuller says that Quandt is a good too way player because of her experience at the Wing and Center positions. He also says since Quandt started with the Cougars in 7th grade, she knows what a lot of the younger players are going through and has taken on a mentoring role. Quandt has 27 of East-Loyola's 87 goals on the year, but she also gets more of the team involved, recording 14 assists. After going through some growing pains with the Cougars' program, she is happy to make the team a more competitive one. Savannah now has 117 goals and 71 assists in her career, which is why MSU was happy to receive a verbal commitment from her when she was a sophomore. The Mavericks may have to wait another year for Quandt, but for now she'll keep leading the Cougars to victories.
