Mankato Area Sees Good Job Growth for December

Posted: Updated:

Minnesota's unemployment rate continued to move downward in December to a rate of 5.7 percent... lower than at any time since the September 2008 financial collapse.

The biggest year–to year increase came in the Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes Blue Earth and Nicollet counties.

The area saw a 1.7 percent increase in jobs over 2010.

Greater Mankato Growth's Jonathan Zierdt says the whole region benefits.

'First of all, this is just really good news for the core cities, but it's also even better news for the regional marketplace. All of Blue Earth and Nicollet Counties and surrounding areas... it really speaks well to the economic vitality of the area,' says Zierdt.

While the month – to – month job numbers between November and December of 2011 dropped slightly, Zierdt says that's following a season pattern.
