Mapleton Has 136th annual Burns Celebration

Mapleton, Minn. -

There was plenty of plaid in Mapleton Sunday for the 136th annual Burns Celebration.

The town celebrates the birth of the Scottish poet, Robert Burns with bagpipe music, highland dancing, and reading of Burns' poetry.

Burn's day is the longest running town celebration in the state of Minnesota.

Burns Day President Jean McCabe says, "It's a celebration of the Mapleton's Scottish heritage, our town was founded by Scottish forefathers, and so that is why we kind of celebrate.  Even if you are not Scottish, you are Scottish today."

Every year a new Miss Bonnie Lass is also crowned at the Burns celebration.
