Senator Franken Discusses Future of MN

Posted: Updated:

Washington is buzzing after President Obama's State of the Union Address last night.

KEYC spoke with Senator Al Franken today about what the tone is in Washington, and what parts of the president's speech could have an effect on Minnesotans.

One hot topic is the payroll tax cut, which Senator Franken believes will benefit residents here in Minnesota.

Senator Al Franken says, "The first thing we're gonna do is extend the payroll tax cut for a full year. We need to do that. That's about a thousand dollars per family a year in Minnesota."

Franken also addressed a project he's passionate about called "Back to Work Minnesota."

The new plan would focus on retrofitting buildings in the state to be more energy efficient.

Franken says, "So it's win, win, win, win. We create jobs, we increase the value of our real estate and our buildings."

Other topics the senator plans to address this year for Minnesota are: wind projects, bio diesel tax cuts, and getting blender pumps to expand the use of ethanol.
