The district 88 school board voted in favor of switching to a 6 period school day.
The reason for the change was based on an interest of increasing student achievement on state testing. A six period school day will allow them to have 8 to 10 minutes more per class period. They're hoping it will increase students test scores in math and reading.
New Ulm Superintendent, Harold Remme says, "We look forward to positive results after the plan has been implemented and we will monitor as the school year goes along if there's any changes that need to be made."
The switch is effective next fall for the 2012-2013 school year.
