Two people are dead and three others injured in a 3 car accident near in north-central Iowa.

It happened Friday evening on Iowa Highway 169.

The Iowa State Patrol says a southbound car driven by 75-year-old man, was driving in the northbound lane, where it collided head-on with another car driven by a 20-year old woman.

Both drivers died.

State patrol says the third vehicle involved was a Webster County sheriff's vehicle transporting two jail inmates. It hit the back end of one of the other vehicles.

The officer and inmates were taken to a Humboldt hospital for treatment.
