Republican leadership in the Minnesota Legislature has called a five-day break for the Minnesota caucuses, leaving some lawmakers frustrated with a work stoppage so early in the session.
Rep. Terry Morrow says, "There's work to be done there's jobs that need to be created the economy needs help we should not be on this long of a break."
Rep. Tony Cornish says, "If I was running the joint I wouldn't have such a long break, I would rather stay there and get things done. I don't think we need this much time for caucus."
However, Rep. Cornish adds that the non-appropriation year allows lawmakers more time to focus on passing bills and reforms with Republicans opting to place that focus on constitutional amendments, which will allow them to bypass vetoes by DFL Governor Mark Dayton on some controversial issues. .
Rep. Tony Cornish says, "I think there will be a battle between Right to Work which is scary to a lot of people, that went on in Wisconsin."
That route has left the other side of the aisle disappointed in how the session has gone so far. Morrow says, "As soon as you figure out what's happening in the session would you let me know because I know yesterday we spent a lot of time doing legislation that I find deeply troubling."
State lawmakers report back to the capitol to work next Wednesday, a day after the Tuesday caucus.
